Abstract

To accurately calculate the inertial force of heavy and large cargos on a ship, we study the empirical formula for the inertial acceleration of container ships and then propose an empirical remedy equation based on a theoretical calculation method. In this study, we use the hybrid Green function method to solve the six-degree-of-freedom motion of a speedy ship in regular waves. Then, we predict the inertial acceleration of a series of container ships at various speeds, sea states, and positions based on the spectral analysis method. Based on the empirical formulas of various institutions, the multiple linear regression method is applied to propose a more reasonable empirical remedy equation for container ships. The results show that the empirical remedy equation is more flexible and accurate than the empirical formula which considers the comprehensive influence of various sea states and ship parameters. The research in this study can provide a reference for heavy and large cargos in ocean transportation.
